CARBON ARROWS / WOODEN ARROWS

To choose the right arrow shaft, you should know and consider basic principles of arrow physics. You should also be familiar with the differences between the various materials (wood, carbon).

To select the right arrow shaft , the correct arrow length for the archer must first be determined. Every archer has a different arm length and therefore a different draw length. With a recurve bow, this means that the force transferred to the arrow varies depending on the draw length. Therefore, the actual draw weight on the fingers must also be determined. This is done using a bow scale, which the archer uses to draw the bow to its anchor point. The spring scale measures the force exerted and thus the archer's individual draw weight.

Selecting the right shaft is done in the following steps:

-> Determination of the extension length
-> Determination of the pull-out weight on the fingers
-> Determination of the spine value (using a table or according to the arrow maker)
-> Purchase of the recommended shaft – test in practice
-> Working with different tip weights and thus performing a rough and fine tuning

Once the individual values have been determined, additional shafts can be ordered.

Wood isn't as strong as carbon or aluminum, so wooden arrows must be manufactured to a certain minimum thickness. Thick arrows, however, have high air resistance. Therefore, wooden arrows aren't suitable for long distances.
Wood is a natural material, so no two wooden arrows are identical and there is greater dispersion on the target.
Wood "works" and constantly changes. Humidity or rain significantly alters the properties of the wooden arrow, resulting in a different impact location on the target.

Wooden arrows are ideal for the discerning longbow archer, ideal for competition and target practice. Handcrafted to your specifications, they are made from Port Orford Cedar or German Spruce. The shaft is tapered from 11/32 to 5/16, straightened, weighted, and spun by hand, and finished with shellac.

Each arrow must have a certain minimum weight in order to absorb the energy from the bow.
If the arrow is too light, it will leave the string before the bow has transferred all of its power to the arrow.

As a rule of thumb, the minimum weight is 8 grains per lb of draw weight. However, each manufacturer has its own specifications, which should be observed. Your bow will thank you...
